BIO

Helen Zuskina was born in 1974 in Ukraine. She is a self-taught contemporary artist working in an abstract style. She lives and works in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

She began her active artistic practice in the summer of 2025, fully devoting herself to painting. Since then, she has painted daily, experimenting with color and texture. She works with acrylics and mixed media, using both traditional art materials and a variety of other materials.

She prefers large-scale canvases, which allow for free improvisation and deep immersion. Her smaller works retain the same expressiveness and attention to detail.

Her near-term plans include creating a series of large-scale paintings and participating in international exhibitions and art fairs.

Artist statement

Despite the absence of an academic art education, Helen came to art on her own, guided by an inner calling and intuition. Her creative path began in childhood when her parents noticed her artistic potential and supported its development. However, life circumstances led her in a different direction, and formal education never took place.

For many years, Helen and her husband managed a family business — a small shop that required full dedication. Yet her interest in aesthetics, design, and painting always remained a part of her life. In her free time, she studied interior design, experimented with colors and forms, developing her own artistic vision. Deep down, Helen always knew that her true calling was painting.

The turning point came when she left her entrepreneurial activity and devoted herself entirely to art. Since then, Helen has been painting every day, finding joy, freedom, and fulfillment in the process. Inspired by her inner states and everything interesting that surrounds her, she creates abstract works in which texture, color, composition, and uniqueness intertwine. For her, it is important that each painting feels “alive” and unique, with its own character and story.

Helen never sought to resemble anyone or follow fashionable trends. She could observe them, take notes, but always interpreted things in her own way. This inner pursuit of originality accompanies her in all areas of life — from everyday living to art. A special place in her inspiration belongs to architecture and modern interior design, filled with light and air, refined restraint, and accents that can emphasize abstract paintings.

Helen is especially drawn to large formats that give space for movement, improvisation, and deep immersion in composition. Yet her smaller works remain equally expressive and full of attention to form and meaning. In her practice, she uses acrylic, various artistic materials and works in mixed media.

Her goal as an artist is to show that abstraction is not merely decoration but a surge of emotion and inspiration that cannot be repeated. Through her works, she conveys her deep love for abstraction, which can become a source of inspiration and harmony for others, enlivening modern, light, and airy interiors while giving them individuality, sophistication, and depth.
